Two Days of Hope

#TeamSashka, we need your advice

Last two days were really amazing – with lot of contacts, media requests and new friends we found. Thank you, #TennisTwitter! While most of Sashka’s challenges are still open & waiting for their solutions, now we’ve got the most important asset – hope. As promised, we made a detailed report for #TeamSashka – please read to know what’s (unexpectedly) happened, and what to be ready for in the nearest future.

Off-season: what’s now?

So 2016 junior tennis season is officially closed for Sashka. I think it was a very successful tennis year… in wrong & unhappy environment.

For sure, it is not a big deal to finish season on #430 position of ITF Juniors rankings. But this is a huge achievement if someone takes into account where Sashka started (#1000) and what this year looked like for our family.

When Sashka played quali in Italy ITF Grade 2 this spring, we had money enough only for 3-nights stay in the cheapest hotel and auto gas to reach the tournament venue & return home. No budget for food at all!

So I put in the car some canned meat, potatoes, vegetables and bread from home, and cooked it in the hotel bathroom (!!!) using compact multi-cooker. Sashka played excellent quali there – probably because she was tired of my food 🙂 & aimed to get full hospitality (incliding meal) after entering main draw.

Anyway, we are at finish point of year 2016 and simultaneously ready to start into 2017.  But… where to go?

Withdrawal from ITF Juniors in Otocec: no money – no party :(

Withdrawal from ITF Juniors Grade 4 - Otocec, Slovenia

Today we have withdrawn Sashka from ITF Juniors Grade 4 tournament in Otocec, Slovenia – KRKA Open 2016.

Sashka was #10 in acceptance list. Her chances to perform well on this tournament were quite high, counting the progress she demonstrated during latest practices. Sashka almost recovered from the leg muscle injury. She lost several kilograms, became more mobile and flexible. Her mental stance is far from perfect – but you need to take into attention that she is 15, it is a “hard age”… for any parents :).

We did not find 250 EUR to finance her trip to Otocec. No pain, no regret – it is just a reality of current days. What`s next? To play where she really can (Zagreb). To work harder. To pray… harder & harder.
